Built for High-Speed Transfer of Multimedia Content
Also known by the brand names FireWire (Apple), i.LINK (Sony), and Lynx (Texas Instruments), the IEEE1394 interface offers high-speed communication and real-time data transfer, making it a great choice for connecting data storage devices and digital video cameras. In fact, IEEE1394 is the primary interface used for nearly all high-end professional audio and visual equipment.

Plug-and-Play Capability
Although the cable doesn't require a host computer to operate, giving it a distinct advantage over USB cables, it features plug-and-play functionality for those times when you wish to connect to your machine. This means that by connecting an IEEE 1394-enabled device to your computer, your operating system will auto-detect the device and ask for a driver disk. If the driver is already installed, your computer will immediately start "talking" to the device.

IEEE 1394 devices are also hot-pluggable, which means that they can be connected and disconnected at any time--even with the device and computer powered on--without harming the device or compromising your data.

Since 2003 many computers intended for home or professional audio/video use have built-in FireWire/i.LINK ports. Full support for IEEE 1394 is available for Microsoft Windows XP, Linux, Apple Mac OS 8.6 through Mac OS 9, and Mac OS X and greater.

Manufactured for Performance and Durability
The AmazonBasics IEEE 1394 4-Pin/6-Pin FireWire Cable features gold-plated connectors for high-level conductivity and durability. The cable is built with shielding and a durable, black PVC outer jacket.

Customer Reviews

You could pay + for a brand name cable.. Buy why?
I am so excited to see Amazon taking on the big retailers and offering cables that are appropriately priced. Go to any Staples, Radio Shack, OfficeMax, Best Buy, etc. and you'll be lucky if you can find this same cable for less than thirty dollars. It's downright criminal. This Amazon cable fit my camcorder and Mac perfectly, and performs just as well as those name brand cables that cost five times as much. Save your money, and buy it here. End of story.

Drive lasted one week and crashed
Great drive at first, very quiet. After one week, started making a loud clicking noise and had to return it.

FireWire Cable
For the price of the cable, the firewire cable works flawlessly. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for firewire cable to come to Amazon.com and buy it for such a great price.

Amazon FireWire Cable
Needed a cable to connect my new external hard drive to my notebook and wanted to try-out the fire wire capability rather than the USB connection. Went down to the local Office supply store and after wandering around looking for the cable and then an even scarcer employee to help me find it - found one for over .00!!!

I love Amazon! Got on-line, found this cable for under .00, ordered it and had it in hand within a few days. Good looking cable with Amazon logo - at a great price - and it seems to work great!

deception
This cable was presented as an accessory to the flip video I purchased. I thought it was an HDMI cable for the flip video. I have no idea what it is for.
